Ashley Mallet was born in Chatswood, New South Wales on 13th July 1945. As an Australian cricketer, Ashley Mallett was the most successful off-spin bowler since World War II and until Nathan Lyon.

Ashley Mallett played in 38 Tests and 9 One Day Internationals between 1968 and 1980.

Mallett was a member of the Western Australian squad in the 1966–67 season, but made no appearances, only being the 12th man in two Sheffield Shield matches.

He was included in several tours this includes the India tour where he took 28 wickets and was an instrumental component of Australia’s last Test series victory there for 35 years

After retiring, Mallet became a journalist, a commentator, a spin bowling coach, and a writer.
