Mel Gibson was born on January 3, 1956, in Peekskill, New York to parents of Australian and Irish descent who raised him in a large catholic family. His family moved to Australia when he was 12 years old where he joined the St. Leo’s Catholic College and Asquith Boys High school.
While in Australia, the actor started to work on his acting skills at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA).
