When you’re the husband of a former captive turned activist for missing persons, your courage level must be well above average. Matthew Gilmour is a shining example of those few men who chose to say “I do” despite their spouses’ past or societal reactions about their decisions. Gilmour sprang to fame after exchanging vows with American activist and advocate for missing persons, Elizabeth Smart. Smart drew global attention after she was kidnapped from her home in Salt Lake City and was rescued months later. She was only fourteen at the time. The two met when they were both serving as missionaries at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Paris. Here’s all you need to know about Elizabeth Smart’s husband.
Matthew Gilmour Bio
Mathew Gilmour was born in Aberdeen, Scotland, in 1991 to Stewart and Kay Gilmour. He and his four siblings – Kyle, Chloe, Bethany, and Ashlea – were raised in Aberdeen. His father served as deputy headteacher at Aberdeen’s St Machar Academy until his passing in 2008. His mother, Kay, works as the head of music at St Machar Academy. She’s big in charity and raises fund for CLAN Cancer Support Center.
The Gilmours are committed members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Aberdeen’s North Anderson Drive. And they trained all five of their children the “Mormon” way. There are very scanty details as regards his childhood, early life, and alma mater. But it is no secret that Matthew Gilmour holds Scottish and British citizenships.
Gilmour shares so much with his famous wife, Elizabeth Smart. Smart’s parents were also dedicated members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She and her five siblings were also raised the Mormon way. Smart attended Bryant Middle School and East High School in Salt Lake City. She then proceeded to Brigham Young University, where she earned her Bachelor of Music in harp performance.
